Terms of Use

Effective date: August 2026 Last updated: August 2026

Welcome to Seaweed Commons. These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the website at seaweedcommons.com (the "Site"), operated by Talplay Inc. ("Seaweed Commons," "we," "us," or "our"). By using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. About the Site

Seaweed Commons is a coordination and intelligence resource for the seaweed sector. It publishes editorial and analytical content, sector information, profiles, and decision-support tools, and can help connect you with independent advisors. The Site is designed to inform and support your decisions. It is not a substitute for professional advice tailored to your situation. See Sections 7 through 9.

2. Our content and how you may use it

Except for the third-party and user-submitted material described below, the original content on the Site, including our briefs, analysis, value-chain and sector write-ups, editorial text, tools, design, and arrangement, is owned by Talplay Inc. and protected by copyright.

You're welcome to read, quote, and link to our original content for ordinary informational and non-commercial purposes, as long as you credit Seaweed Commons and link back to the source page. Please don't republish substantial portions of our content, present it as your own, or systematically copy, scrape, harvest, or aggregate the Site or its data without our permission.

3. Third-party and curated content

The Site includes content that we curate or display but do not own, such as dishes and media featured in Seaweed Kitchen, company and organization information, event listings, and embedded links or media. That content belongs to its respective owners and is shown for reference and showcase purposes only. We make no ownership claim over it, and its inclusion does not imply endorsement. If you own rights in material shown on the Site and would like it changed or removed, contact us at naser@talplay.ca.

4. Your submissions

When you submit a profile, listing, image, or other material to the Site (a "Submission"):

  • You keep ownership. You retain any rights you already hold in your Submission.
  • You grant us a licence. You grant Seaweed Commons a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, reproduce, adapt for formatting, and publish your Submission on and in connection with the Site, until you ask us to remove it.
  • You confirm you have the rights. You confirm that you own or have permission to submit the Submission and everything in it, including any photographs or images, and that publishing it will not infringe anyone's rights or any law.
  • We have editorial discretion. We may review, approve, decline, edit for length or clarity, or remove any Submission at our discretion. Approval and publication are not guaranteed.
  • Removal. You can ask us to take down your Submission at any time by contacting us, and we will unpublish it within a reasonable period.

5. Acceptable use

Please don't use the Site to:

  • break any law or infringe anyone's rights;
  • submit false, misleading, unlawful, or harmful content, or content you do not have the right to submit;
  • scrape, crawl, harvest, or bulk-download content except as expressly permitted;
  • interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Site or its systems; or
  • misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organization.

6. Accounts and workspace features

Some features, including the Seaweed Venture Workspace, may require an account and may be governed by additional terms presented at sign-up. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for activity under your account. Where paid services are offered, applicable fees, billing, and cancellation terms will be set out separately.

7. Tools and decision-support

We offer tools, models, and resources to help you explore options and make better-informed decisions. These are built to be genuinely useful, and we work to keep them sound. At the same time, their outputs depend on the information, assumptions, and sources behind them, and on the details you provide. Before you act on anything a tool produces, please confirm it against your own sources and circumstances. Verifying outputs is part of using the tools well, and that verification rests with you rather than with Seaweed Commons, which means you can act on your own confirmed understanding with confidence.

8. Advisors and third-party advice

The Site may help you connect with advisors and other professionals. Any advisor you engage through the Site is an independent third party. The advice they provide, and your relationship with them, is between you and that advisor. Seaweed Commons is not a party to it, does not provide that advice, and is not responsible for it. We're glad to help make the introduction; the professional judgment and any engagement terms are theirs and yours.

9. Our content is informational

The content we publish, including sector intelligence, briefs, and profiles, is compiled from a range of sources and offered for general information and to support your thinking. It isn't investment, financial, legal, tax, or professional advice, and it isn't tailored to your particular situation. For decisions that call for professional guidance, we'd encourage you to confirm with a qualified advisor, which the Site can help you find.

10. Third-party links

The Site links to third-party websites and resources we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy, or practices, and links do not imply endorsement. Your use of third-party sites is governed by their own terms and policies.

11. Service provided as available

We put real care into the Site and want it to work well for you. Because it's an evolving resource that draws on many sources, we can't promise it will always be complete, current, or free of errors, and we provide it on an "as available" basis. To the extent the law allows, Talplay Inc. limits its liability for losses arising from use of the Site. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

12. Covering costs

You agree to cover Seaweed Commons and Talplay Inc. for claims, losses, and reasonable costs that arise from your Submissions, your use of the Site, or your breach of these Terms.

13. Changes to the Site and these Terms

We may change, improve, or discontinue parts of the Site over time. We may also update these Terms; when we do, we'll revise the "Last updated" date, and significant changes will be noted on the Site. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable there, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You agree to the jurisdiction of the courts located in British Columbia for any dispute, subject to any mandatory rights you have under local law.
